GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The State and Local Public Health Actions to Prevent Obesity, Diabetes, and Heart Disease and Stroke (SLPHA) grant supports implementation of policy, environmental and health system changes to prevent obesity, diabetes, heart disease and stroke and reduce health disparities in these areas among adults. Through SLPHA, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health will build on the successes of Get Healthy Philly, a citywide initiative that aims to reduce chronic diseases related to smoking, unhealthy eating, and lack of physical activity. As part of Get Healthy Philly, the City of Philadelphia has been working to promote and support the recommended daily amounts of physical activity for all Philadelphians.
This is a full time position responsible for promoting work and community-based physical activity opportunities. The Physical Activity Coordinator will work with municipal agencies and larger employers to
1) create an accessible and comprehensive database of free and low cost municipal physical activity programming, 2) align promotional efforts across agencies and 3) develop partnerships within and outside of government to support physical activity policies, particularly stairwell access. This position will report directly to the Nutrition and Physical Activity Program Manager.
SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES
The Physical Activity Coordinator will accomplish the following:
Creation of accessible, up-to-date information regarding existing municipal programming for physical activity
Tracking and monitoring impact of active design policies within city government
Convene a working group of design, engineering, architecture and building code partners to develop design criteria to facilitate stairwell access
Creation and dissemination of a toolkit regarding stairwell access and other workplace active design strategies
Assist 10-15 large employers with developing, implementing, and assessing stairwell access
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in public health, public administration, or health education.
Background or experience with health and wellness preferred OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Philadelphia Department of Public Health
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
Must establish his or her bona fide residence in Philadelphia within six (6) months of his or her appointment, and must thereafter maintain bona fide residence in Philadelphia.
SALARY
Salary range is 50,000 – 60,000 and is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
