Description
Spent: Looking for Change follows the lives of several families who are living on the edge and facing challenges that are common to many Americans who are struggling financially with medical catastrophes, excessive student loans, low credit scores, and payday loan traps. The film illustrates the day-to-day perils of financial exclusion and serves as a call to action to the financial industry both to halt the practices that prey on the vulnerabilities of needy households and to develop new products that support people who are trying to regain financial stability.
After the film, there will be a discussion that aims to:
- explore how financial institutions and practitioners can work to make financial services more accessible;
- pinpoint ways that current policies can be improved to create more financial inclusion without putting an additional burden on the financial institutions; and
- identify innovative new models that promote inclusion in financial services.
Spent: Looking for Change is the ninth in the Shared Prosperity Roundtable series, in which organizations and individuals who are interested in partnering in support of Shared Prosperity Philadelphia can come together to deepen the knowledge base, share ideas, and identify opportunities for greater collaboration. The roundtables have attracted a broad range of stakeholders including policymakers, nonprofits, corporations, foundations, and community members.
