Letters of Inquiry for Creative Placemaking Projects

Posted by ArtPlace America on September 29, 2014

ArtPlace America, a nationwide initiative to drive community revitalization through the arts, is inviting Letters of Inquiry for the fifth round of its National Grants program.

A collaboration of thirteen major national and regional foundations, six of the nation’s largest banks, and eight federal agencies, ArtPlace works to accelerate creative placemaking in the United States. The initiative defines creative placemaking as “a means of investing in art and culture at the heart of a portfolio of integrated strategies that can drive vibrancy and diversity so powerful that it transforms communities.”

Grants of up to $500,000 will be awarded to projects that involve arts organizations, artists, and designers working in partnership with local and national partners to have a transformative impact on their community.

Applications are encouraged from all fifty states and any U.S. territory. Several of ArtPlace’s foundation partners have deep commitments to their local and regional communities and have provided funding specifically to ensure that grants are made in communities of all sizes in Alaska, California, and Minnesota; in rural communities in Arizona, Iowa, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin; and in the cities of Akron, Ohio; Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville, Massachusetts; Charlotte, North Carolina; Detroit, Michigan; Macon, Georgia; Miami, Florida; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; San Jose, California; and St. Paul, Minnesota. Several funders also are interested in ensuring the participation and representation of folk and traditional arts, Native American arts, and the performing arts.

Approximately 50 percent of the $10 million to be disbursed in 2015 is restricted to the above communities and/or artistic disciplines. In an effort to support the broad spectrum of creative placemaking practices across the United States, ArtPlace is particularly interested in projects from states in which it has not yet granted, including Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Utah, and Wyoming. Projects in these areas are particularly encouraged, although applications are welcome and grants may be awarded to projects from anywhere in the U.S.

Visit the ArtPlace America website for complete program guidelines, an FAQ, and LOI submission instructions.

DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 3, 2014 (LETTERS OF INQUIRY)
