The Black Farmers and Urban Growers Conference is coming to the city of Detroit from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 19, 2014. Check out this newsletter for info on: innovative programming; registration and scholarships; world-class keynote speakers; and the Growing Green Children’s Conference. Our workshops will explore issues of race, class, commerce, health, production, nutrition and growing techniques.
The due date for proposals has been extended to Monday, September 29, 2014.
We are looking for proposals within five main categories:
Wealth (Ex: entrepreneurship, jobs in agriculture, local resource management, land ownership)
Health (Ex: disparities, nutrition, health outcomes, education)
Justice (Ex: Farm Bill, Pickford case, racism in the food system, food security)
Growing (Ex: growing techniques, sustainability, innovation)
Culinary (Ex: chefs, bakers, mixologists, slow food advocates, and mobile food vendors).
