Now celebrating its 24th year, Bridging the Gaps is committed to forging partnerships with individuals and organizations dedicated to the promotion of health in underserved communities. The Annual Symposium is free to the public and is based on the work of students who have participated in the past program year.

David Sheff is the author of “Beautiful Boy,” and award-winning, No. 1 New York Times best seller that recounts his harrowing struggle to help his son overcome a methamphetamine addiction. Following its publication, Sheff met countless people struggling to prevent or survive drug abuse. The encounters led him on a 10-year mission to determine why America is losing its war against drugs and so many of its children in the process. Sheff’s search culminated with “Clean,” a myth-shattering look at drug use and treatment, based on the latest research in psychology, neuroscience and medicine.

Sheff speaks frequently on the subject of drug use, abuse and prevention at conferences and community groups and at high schools and colleges. His ongoing research and reports on the science of addiction earned him a place on the Time magazine’s list of the world’s most influential people. Sheff is a renowned journalist who has written for The New York Times, Fortune, Rolling Stones and many other publications.
