Training set on teen dating violence prevention
The Black Women’s Health Alliance will sponsor a one-day training on the Safe Dates Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program for youth-focused teachers, counselors, church facilitators and other qualified individuals.
In 2011, the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, a nationally representative survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reported that 15.2% of youth grades 9 to 12 in Philadelphia had been hit, slapped, or physically hurt on purpose by their boyfriend or girlfriend, which is 5.8% higher than the national average.
Safe Dates is the only evidence-based curriculum that prevents dating abuse and helps teens recognize the difference between caring, supportive relationships and controlling, manipulative, or abusive dating relationships. The one day training will be conducted by certified expert from the Center for Safe Schools.
The training will take place on Tuesday, August 26th at First District Plaza, 3801 Market Street in Philadelphia. Thanks to the support of Women’s Way, the training is free.
