Teaching Across Difference
Saturday, February 28, 2009
Arch Street Meeting House (4th and Arch Street, Philadelphia)
8:30am – 3:00pm.
• A workshop for Quakers (and others!) who work in Public Schools.
• Come explore this idea: that the effectiveness of our teaching can be affected by the ways that we (mis)understand difference. Dimensions of difference can include: religious, racial, socio-economic, sexual, cultural, gender, and others.
• We offer: activities to notice the ways that difference can impede our ability to be heard and understood; Opportunities to role-play some of the challenging (and hard to talk about) situations that we’ve encountered; a framework to help us increase our ability to recognize and bridge across difference.
• Act 48 credits are available
