Science Education and Humanitarian Projects
Posted by IEEE Foundation on July 21, 2014
The IEEE Foundation cultivates resources and relationships to foster technological innovation and excellence to benefit humanity. The foundation relies on donations to bring the excitement of scientific discovery to students, foster technological innovation, preserve history, and promote awareness of the long-reaching effects of engineering and its impact on humanity.
To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for new projects in the areas of education, history of technology, and applying technology for humanitarian causes.
1) Education: The foundation supports projects that expand and enhance engineering, science, and technology educational opportunities for students of all ages and early to mid-career professionals so as to positively impact workforce development and involvement in IEEE.
2) History of Technology: Through this program, the foundation supports projects that increase awareness of the impact and influence of early technology on the present and future among the general public. Projects primarily aimed at preserving or studying the history of technology must include plans to disseminate the results.
3) Applying Technology for Humanitarian Causes: Within its humanitarian focus area, the foundation supports projects that implement or disseminate replicable, sustainable, technology-based solutions for humanitarian issues in underserved and underprivileged areas.
Last year, the foundation awarded grants totaling $516,000 to twenty-nine projects.
To be eligible, applicants must be considered tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
