New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation Invites Applications for Jazz Education Programs
DEADLINE: AUGUST 1, 2014
Since 1979, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation has reinvested the proceeds from the annual New Orleans Jazz Fest directly into the community in the form of grants to arts and education organizations. To date, the foundation has donated more than $3 million to nonprofit event presenters, educational programs, dance troupes, theater workshops, film productions, performing artists, visual artists, and more.
With this mission in mind, the foundation is accepting applications for its Community Partnership Grants program, a historic part of the foundation’s efforts to support the musical culture of Louisiana. The foundation will support programs in four categories:
1) Jazz & Heritage Afterschool and Summer Education Programs in Music, Arts and Cultural Traditions: This category supports afterschool and summer educational arts programs offered by nonprofit organizations and educational institutions. Organizations may apply for funding to cover the professional service fees of the artists or educators who will do the instruction.
2) Jazz & Heritage In-School Education Programs in Music, Arts and Cultural Traditions: This category supports in-school music and arts education programs at Louisiana public K-12 schools. Schools may apply for funding to purchase or repair instruments and other supplies, or to cover part of an arts teacher’s salary.
3) Jazz Journey Presenting: Festivals and Concerts in Music and Performing Arts: This category supports employment for Louisiana performing artists by providing funding to Louisiana-based nonprofit arts organizations that hire Louisiana-based musicians or other performing artists to perform at cultural events in the state. Only arts-based organizations in Louisiana may apply.
4) Jazz & Heritage Archive: Documentation and Preservation: This category supports the creation, documentation, or exhibition of artworks that document or interpret the indigenous culture of Louisiana. Individuals and nonprofits may apply. Priority will be given to Louisiana-based applicants.
Information workshops will be held on Monday, June 23, 2004, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
