Research Associate, Research for Better Schools
Posted by Research for Better Schools on June 2, 2014
As Philadelphia’s longest operating educational research and evaluation firm, RBS conducts rigorous, independent social science research that produces useful and actionable results. Our work at the local, regional, and national levels exemplifies our mission to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn across the life cycle. Projects are funded by federal agencies, state departments of education, universities, and other education entities. Our current project portfolio includes work in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; school improvement through professional development; educational technology; and policy analyses.
The Research Associate’s workscope involves assisting with data design, collection, and analysis, including but not limited to activities such as administering surveys, conducting individual and group interviews, observing classrooms and professional development, and analyzing secondary data. The researcher also develops statistical tables, reviews literature, writes reports, and presents research findings in informal and formal settings. RBS places a priority on providing prompt and clear feedback to clients in a variety of formats, such as written reports, oral presentations, and debriefing sessions with stakeholders. Since RBS is funded through competitive contracts and grants, all staff members share responsibility for developing proposals for new projects and otherwise marketing the organization.
The Research Associate position requires relevant academic training in the social sciences, and at least one year’s experience directly working in an educational research environment. A Master’s degree is preferred; however, candidates with substantial evaluation experience who lack a graduate degree will also be considered. The position reports to the RBS Associate Executive Director.
