National Liberty Museum’s Young Heroes Award

The National Liberty Museum honors “Heroes” for a very simple reason: “Liberty” and “Heroism” are inseparable. To “LIVE LIKE a HERO” means accepting the responsibilities of freedom and contributing to society in ways –great and small– that strengthen our democracy for everyone.

Through the Museum’s many years of sharing this message, we have learned something important. Many people under-stand this lesson at a very young age and do remarkable things to make their schools and communities a better place. These are the students we honor each year with our prestigious Young Heroes Award. Below are just a few examples of our hundreds of past Young Heroes.

Do you know a Young Hero?
We know there are many more students like those pictured on the previous page, but we need your help. If you know a student age 18 or younger who you believe is deserving of this recognition, please complete the attached form and send it to us today.

Winners will be honored at the Museum’s annual Young Heroes Award ceremony on August 6; their stories will be featured in a Museum exhibit for an entire year; they will have the opportunity to represent this program at future Museum events as YHA alumni; and they will receive a certificate of achievement, medallion, and other gifts! One student will be named the President’s Honor Winner, which includes a $1,000 monetary prize

Additionally, we will present our annual Troy Ray Johnson Memorial Award to a student who has worked against violence in Philadelphia. Please mark the box under #3 on your nomination form to have your nominee considered for this honor. Troy Ray Johnson was an employee and friend of the National Liberty Museum. He was shot and killed in North Philadelphia on July 9, 2011.
