Tele-FAFSA: A New Way to Apply for Financial Aid
Federal Student Aid is partnering with organizations in Pennsylvania to make applying for student financial assistance over the phone a reality. You can get personal one-on-one assistance with completing the FAFSA by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID.
Who should use Tele-FAFSA?
If you live or attend school in the state of Pennsylvania and are thinking about attending college, or you are currently enrolled in college in Pennsylvania, you can phone Federal Student Aid to receive assistance with completing the FAFSA.
When can I use Tele-FAFSA?
Federal Student Aid is piloting Tele-FAFSA for a limited period of time. You can use Tele-FAFSA from April 15, 2007 through August 30, 2007 to receive personal assistance with filling out the FAFSA. The hours of operation for the Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC) are:
Regular Hours (Eastern Time):
Sunday – Closed
M-F – 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 midnight
Sat – 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
From the third Saturday in July through the last Sunday in August, Extended Hours (Eastern Time) will be:
Sun – 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
M-F – 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 midnight
Sat – 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
What do I say when I call?
First, dial 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). The automated system will give the following greeting. ?Welcome to the Federal Student Aid Information Center. This call may be monitored or recorded for quality purposes. Para continuar en espa?ol, diga ?espa?ol?. At this point, callers who prefer to speak Spanish should say ?espa?ol? and tell the customer service representative who answers they are in the Tele-FAFSA pilot. Otherwise, the system continues. ?Federal Student Aid information is also available on the internet at <a href="http://www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov">http://www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov</a>. Please listen carefully as our menus have changed??. During the menu, say ?customer service? or press 0. This will direct your call to a customer service representative. Tell the customer service representative: ?I am part of the Tele-FAFSA pilot. Please connect me with your Tele-FAFSA department.? The customer service representative will transfer your call to another representative specially designated to help you with your Tele-FAFSA call.
