How to Facilitate a Successful Workshop
with Don Hill and Mark Batenburg of Youth Service California
April 24, 2007 — 9am PDT / 10am MDT / 11am CDT / 12pm EDT
Nearly everyone in the service-learning world is asked to lead a workshop or a meeting at some point. What are the keys to facilitating a good workshop? What are the most common pitfalls?
Don Hill and Mark Batenburg have been leading workshops together and individually for more years than they care to admit. And they?ve attended several lifetimes? worth of workshops presented by others. On Tuesday 4/24/2007 they will share some of their thoughts and experiences, and respond to your questions.
We want this session to be driven by your needs and questions. We invite you to send questions before Monday 4/23/2007 or during the conversation (via Messages to the sl_sage user account).
SAGE SESSION Overview:
We will begin looking at the challenge of dealing with a difficult person in a workshop (please review Workshop Scenario in the Doc Share)
We will then explore a challenge that gets at the crux at what makes the difference between an OK professional development presenter and a real pro: The ability to present key information in a variety of ways.
In the third part of the SAGE session we are going to share a list of ideas for successful professional development that were developed by three very experienced service-learning facilitators: Cathy Berger Kaye, Jill Addison Jacobson, and Don Hill. (please review Keys to Effective Workshops in the Doc Share).
The final portion of the session will be devoted to responding to questions that you send to us.
