Gateway to College Program
The Gateway to College Program at Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) serves at-risk youth, 16 to 20 years old, who have dropped out of school. The program gives students the opportunity to earn a high school diploma while also earning college credits and achieving college success. What makes Gateway to College truly unique is that students simultaneously accumulate high school and college credits, thus earning their high school diploma while progressing toward an associate degree or certificate.
Don’t miss out! Gateway to College student recruitment is winding down for the Summer 2007 semester! Classes will begin on May 14th, 2007. We still have openings for our April 2007 Information Sessions. The process to apply is simple and it’s free.
Here’s what an interested applicant needs to do:
a) Determine if you meet basic eligibility:
–You are between ages 16 & 20
–You dropped out of a Philadelphia public high school and have been out of school for a semester
–You are able to complete the requirements for a high school diploma by age 22
–You currently have fewer than 19 credits toward your high school diploma
–You have a strong desire to work hard and earn both a high school diploma and college credits
–Your reading level is at least 8th grade or higher (which will be determined by a reading assessment)
b) Fill out a Gateway to College application — Applications can be downloaded at http://www.ccp.edu/site/gateway/. Go to the "how to apply" link.
NOTE: For those applicants without Internet access, call (215) 751-8540 to request an application. Press option 1.
c) Register for an upcoming Gateway to College Information Session:
–There are still openings for the sessions on 4/17
–To register for an Information Session, call the information line (215- 751-8540). A Gateway to College staff member will call you back to register you.
d) Attend the Information Session for which you registered –Bring your completed application and essays with you to the Information Session.
**NOTE: It is very important that you call to register for an Information Session. You cannot attend without first registering**
It’s that simple! Gateway to College will be accepting 40 students for the Summer semester and will then add more students each subsequent semester. The process is very competitive.
