Webinar: National Service Inclusion Project
Posted by on December 2, 2005
We are pleased to announce the December NSIP webconference. This month offers a rare opportunity to hear current and former service members with disabilities share their experiences.
Date:
Thursday, December 15 from 3 PM – 4 PM EST.
Speakers:
– Santa Perez, third-year VISTA member and president of People First of Nevada
– Joe Tierney, NSIP staffer and a former AmeriCorps NCCC corps member and team leader
Speaker Bios and Description:
Through her VISTA program, Santa Perez helped found People First of Nevada, a self-advocacy group that supports people with developmental disabilities to learn how to speak up for themselves. The group now has five chapters. Joe Tierney dedicated two years to AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps). NCCC is a team-based, residential program where members work together on a variety of projects focusing on the environment, unmet human needs, and public safety. Ms. Perez and Mr. Tierney will talk about how they got involved with AmeriCorps, overcoming challenges they faced, and the positive changes they made. There will be a chance to ask questions.
