Applications Invited for Intel and Scholastic Schools of Distinction Awards
Deadline: January 5, 2006
Applications are now being accepted for the 2006 Intel and Scholastic Schools of Distinction awards. The program, which was established by Scholastic (http://www.scholastic.com/), the children’s publishing company, and Intel (http://www.intel.com/education/), the chip-maker and technology corporation, rewards schools for programs that promote student achievement and innovation in education.
The program is open to K-12 public, private, charter, parochial, Department of Defense, and Bureau of Indian Affairs schools. (Home schools are not eligible.) A school may apply for an Intel Scholastic School of Distinction Award in any one of the following nine categories: Academic Achievement, Literacy Achievement, Mathematics Achievement, Science Achievement, Technology Excellence, Technology Innovation, Technology Innovation, Professional Development, and Collaboration and Teamwork.
The program will choose two winners per category, one at the elementary level and one at the secondary level. From these eighteen winners, two schools will be selected to receive the designation of "Best of the Best." These winners will be recognized for having a comprehensive program addressing technology, strong involvement of parents and the community, ongoing professional development, great teamwork, and for consistently achieving high academic standards.
Each category winner receives a $10,000 grant from the Intel Foundation and a host of educational products provided by Scholastic."Best of the Best" winners receive an additional $15,000 from the Intel Foundation, for a total of $25,000. The awards program will culminate with an awards gala in October 2006 where the eighteen finalists will be recognized. In addition, the winners will be showcased in a future issue of Scholastic Administr@tor.
