Posted by on June 26, 2004
There is not much time to sign up for the Governor?s Institute for Parental Involvement which will be held at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Institute will:
? Promote an increased awareness of the benefits of parent/family involvement in education for students, schools, families and communities.
? Engage parents, teachers and administrators in promising partnership practices to be shared with others to improve students? academic achievement.
The Institute will be held over two weekends for teams of educators and parents from the same school/local education agency, district and/or intermediate unit. Teams will consist of two educators (preferably a superintendent or principal and a teacher) and four parents (preferably one from pre-k, elementary, middle and high school, if team members represent the entire school district). If space is available, individual participants may be accepted.
Applications should be organized and completed by a team coordinator. The application should include an explanation (no more than 250 words) describing:
? how the school will benefit from this training; and
? how the team will share what was learned with others in the district.
Application selection will be based on composition of the team, type of school (public, nonpublic, charter, alternative education), geographic location and size of school (rural, suburban, and urban) and the proposed use of training. Application to this Institute signifies an understanding that you will be an active participant in residence from Friday through Sunday at no cost to you, other than personal transportation costs to the Institute. Meals and housing will be provided. Childcare will be provided for parent representatives. (Pre-registration is required.) Sessions are ongoing throughout the day and will involve evening hours. Please read and agree to the complete list of expectations and benefits on the website before submitting your application.
