2003 Spirit of Service Awards
The Corporation for National and Community Service is committed to recognizing and celebrating outstanding service by its members and volunteers. We have established the "Spirit of Service" awards to highlight the contributions of our most outstanding Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Serve America teachers and participants. The awards will be presented at a special luncheon to be held June 9 at the 2003 National Conference on Community Volunteering and National Service in Baltimore.
Nominations of people that have made significant and lasting contributions to their communities are currently being sought. Nominees must exemplify the spirit of national service, demonstrate exceptional service or leadership, or serve as role models for others in their community. If you know someone in your program whose spirit of service is worthy of recognition, we encourage you to submit your nomination by May 26.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
This competition is open to any volunteer or member in a program supported by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Examples include: Senior Corps volunteers, AmeriCorps members, Learn and Serve America participants, Presidential Freedom Scholars, Special Volunteer Program volunteers, and Student Service Award winners. NOTE: Nominees must be currently serving or have completed their service in the past year.
NOMINATION PROCESS
Nominations may be made by any person affiliated with a grantee sponsor organization, any Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, or Learn and Serve America program director or staff, any state commission staff, or any Corporation staff member. Self-nominations are permitted.
All nominations must include by a narrative of 500 words or less in support of the nomination. (see guidelines below). All nominations must also
include:
* Nominee’s name, address, telephone number, fax, e-mail and dates of service.
* Nominator’s name; title; and organization name, address, telephone, fax, and email.
Please send your nominations via e-mail to spiritofserviceawards@cns.gov or by fax to (202) 565-2824. The deadline for receipt of nominations is midnight, Monday, May 26.
