Job Description
Director of Community Engagement
The Campaign for Working Families seeks practical ways of improving the economic status of the working poor in Philadelphia, so that families have the opportunity to increase their income, wisely manage their limited finances, and protect themselves from dubious and expensive tax preparation and financial services. The Campaign provides free tax preparation services at community based sites which allow maximum benefits due from the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), PA TAX BACK and other credits and refunds.
Responsibilities:
– Responsible for designing, implementing and supervising all aspects of Campaign outreach including recruitment, training and supervision of the following:
o Community outreach to promote Campaign tax sites;
o Cash coaches to provide education and information in Campaign waiting rooms, including information about asset development opportunities;
o Any additional outreach responsibilities the Campaign assumes for new contracts or
– Maintaining strong relationships with community based organizations to recruit tax customers, volunteers for tax sites, and any other resources or services that assist the Campaign in meeting its mission and goals;
– Promotion of Campaign goals including protection of low income individuals from predatory practices in the financial services market place; promotion of low cost alternatives, advocacy to achieve change in area of financial services practices;
– Work closely with Director of Operations to recruit and train community residents who are paid to provide tax support to hard-to-staff tax sites
– Developing relationships with vendors to provide free materials, supplies, food, etc. for Campaign tax sites;
– Developing relationships with employers to encourage their employees to use Campaign tax sites and other services and opportunities as defined by yearly operational goals and strategies including recruitment of tax volunteers;
– Recruitment and supervision of interns for special projects including maintaining accurate and timely data base of all community outreach efforts contacts (both individual and organizational), literature fulfillment, speaking engagements, etc.
– Other duties and responsibilities consistent with Campaign operational goals and as needed.
Qualifications:
– Minimum undergraduate degree and extensive demonstrated community based experience
– Minimum two years supervisory experience
– Demonstrated ability to design and provide training especially in community based settings
– Demonstrated ability to communicate Campaign mission, program and goals effectively and persuasively
– Strong written and oral communication skills
– Proficiency in computer software including Word, Excel, Access
– Well organized and self-motivating
– Demonstrated record of community contacts and relationships throughout Philadelphia neighborhoods
– Knowledge of issues impacting low wage working households including EITC, public benefits, housing, credit repair, etc.
– Eagerness to work in a diverse environment
– Car and driver?s license
– Strong commitment to Campaign mission and the communities we serve
– Flexible personality and willingness to work in an ever-changing, demanding environment.
