AmeriCorps*VISTA is dedicated to eliminating poverty by helping individuals and low-income neighborhoods make positive changes for themselves. Through AmeriCorps*VISTA, ordinary people provide extraordinary service in more than 1,200 projects nationwide. Members serve full-time for a year in organizations and agencies throughout the country, working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, increase housing opportunities, or bridge the digital divide.

Eligibility for AmeriCorps*VISTA: You must be at least 18 years old, but there is no upper age limit. Many AmeriCorps*VISTA members bring significant work and life experiences to their assignment. Initiative, flexibility, and organizational skills are a must. You must be available to serve full-time for one year.
Ayuda Community Center offers an after-school program, which serves 60-70 at-risk elementary school students. The program provides tutoring and homework assistance as well as group academic instruction and recreational activities. We also offer a College Access Program (CAP) which works primarily with high school students but also with junior high students. The program offers workshops, college visits, trips to college fairs, and individual tutoring and assistance with college applications. Ayuda also hosts a free legal clinic twice a month for low-income individuals who need legal advice. Lawyers who specialize in a variety of areas volunteer their time in the clinic.
Position Description
One (1) VISTA will assist the Director of Development with fundraising through a variety of sources such as individual donors, foundations, corporations, churches, community, and special events. Also do research and perhaps assist in developing a sustainable income-producing business in the neighborhood or a separate 501(c)(3). The candidate must have strong writing and public speaking skills. A business degree and/or proposal writing helpful. Must be a dynamic, self-starter with an interest in the mission of this organization and serving this community. Must be able to work in team atmosphere and willing to network.
