JOB TITLE: Child Care Director
REPORTS TO: Senior Program Director
DATE: February 2007
POSITION PURPOSE
Provide leadership to the growth, quality and safety of a preschool childcare program. Ensure that age appropriate curriculum is implemented and that the program achieves high standards for quality, including NAEYC accreditation and 4 Keystone Stars. Ensure continuous development of staff and maintain high staff satisfaction. Respond to community needs and collaborate with organizations to provide quality programs in the community. Maintain all safety standards and ensure compliance with DPW and YMCA standards. Ensure financial objectives are met and that all recordkeeping is accurate and billing and collections timely. Partners with parents to help children develop to their full potential. Supervises and coordinates the work of group supervisors and classroom aides. Ensures child safety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
? Provide leadership to the program and plan, supervise, and implement the program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the YMCA, ensuring the well-being and safety of the children and staff at all times. Ensure that curriculum is implemented in all classrooms and complies with program quality standards.
? Maintain operation of the program consistent with Department of Public Welfare regulations prepare for state licensing inspections. Prepare for all assessments from DPW, NAEYC, Keystone stars.
? Coordinate, plan, and implement daily / monthly activities with the Group Supervisor(s), adapting the program whenever possible to the individualized needs of the children
? Ensure that all new staff completes an orientation that includes observation in the assigned classroom and development of their individual PDR. (Professional Development Record)
? Ensure that teachers submit monthly lesson plans, weekly and specialized reports.
? Supervise all staff assigned to the site. Arrange coverage to meet required ratios. Provide written evaluations quarterly.
? Provide opportunities for staff development and training in accordance with PDR (Professional Development Record).
? Compile daily enrollment and attendance statistics for each child in the program.
? Organize and update children?s files while protecting the confidentiality of this information.
? Document parent conferences, discipline problems, and staff concerns.
? Interact directly with all the children in the program.
? Ensure that proper care is taken of all equipment and that the site location is kept clean and well-ordered.
? Prepare and distribute written communication with the parents (monthly newsletters for example) and assist in public relations events sponsored by the YMCA administration.
? Participate in training programs, conferences, and take advantage of opportunities for professional growth.
? Establishes positive parent relations and communications. Involves parents in their children?s child care development experience. Maintains open lines of communication with parents via monthly newsletters and daily updates.
? Assist the Lead teachers with other duties required to provide quality school age child care at the assigned site.
? Assists in the developments and implements age appropriate child centered curriculum. Curriculum to include social, intellectual and physical development objectives consistent with YMCA principles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AS PRESCHOOL CHILD CARE DIRECTOR
? Take direction from the Youth and Family Services Director to keep files in order for the program. Including but not limited to attendance sheets, worksheets, emergency contact forms, heath assessment forms, parent handbook forms, fee agreement forms and staff paperwork.
? Keep up to date all the child care and preschool files.
? Follow up with parents who need to complete forms to stay in compliance.
? Buy snacks and supplies for the child care and distribute as necessary.
? Prepare staff schedule on weekly basis.
? First resource to the staff if they have any questions or concerns.
CRITERIA FOR SUCCESS
The effectiveness of the Site Director shall be measured by:
? The level of satisfaction of parents and children
? The degree to which the program maintains a high standard for quality, organization, and professionalism as measured by the Program Director?s evaluation
? The degree to which enrollment levels are maintained.
? The extent to which the YMCA philosophy is exemplified in the program?s operation.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
? Maintains strict confidentiality of children?s records, finances, home life, behavior, etc.
? Grows professionally by attending YMCA and other training programs.
? Follow up with parents who need to complete forms to stay in compliance.
? Buy snacks and supplies for the child care and distribute as needed.
? Prepare staff schedule on weekly basis.
? Must work with staff and members in raising financial assistance funding.
? First resource to the staff if they have any questions or concerns.
? Training requirements include 18 hours annually to include: fire safety, child development, CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention and New Staff Orientation
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIREMENTS
? Bachelor?s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field. 3-5 years of experience working with children.
? Ability to lift 50 lbs.
? Ability to sit, stoop, run, climb and actively participate in activities related to the age of the group.
? CPR, Child Abuse Prevention Training, First Aid, Fire Safety and YMCA orientation are required within 6 months of hire.
? A minimum of 6 hours of child development training per year as defined by the DPW.
? A BS in Early Childhood Education is preferred. College degree in a related field and 2 years of experience working with children.
