VISTA Mentoring Program:
Children of Incarcerated Parents

The VISTA member is responsible to develop and coordinate mentor-mentee activities and support volunteer generation for the Children of Prisoner?s Program sponsored by the four Beacon Center Consortium in southeast Philadelphia. The responsibilities are carried out in coordination with the other EW VISTAs in Philadelphia and Lawrenceville to assure sharing of resources and unduplicated effort. Note: In the event the Children of Prisoner?s Program ends prior to the VISTA?s year of completion, another mentoring project will be initiated. It will be either mentoring public school students identified as having serious truancy records or mentoring teen mothers in a family literacy program.

The VISTA will report to the EW Grays Ferry Beacon Center Director and coordinate with the Consortium?s Beacon Directors.

Living Allowance and Benefits:
* Monthly living allowance, $894.00 before taxes
* Health care
* Child care, partial, if eligible
* Relocation allowance up to $500, if eligible
* Education award of $4,725 or cash stipend of $1,200 at completion of year of service
* Student loan forbearance and one year accrued interest paid on loans

Qualifications:

Must be age 18 or older, U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident; Associates Degree at minimum; highly organized; public speaking skills; knowledge of Word and Outlook.
