Job Description
Community Organizer

The Philadelphia Unemployment Project is a long time organizing project working with unemployed and low-income people on issues of economic justice. We are hiring an organizer to work with existing members and to bring in new activists. S/he will staff issue campaigns designed to involve low-income people in issues that directly affect them. Current campaigns include (1) a fight to raise the state minimum wage, (2) a campaign to reduce mortgage foreclosures and real estate tax sheriff sales and (3) a campaign to increase access to health care for the uninsured.

The organizer will identify interested people, involve them in the campaigns and work to develop their leadership skills. S/he will do outreach to the community to let people know of the services offered by PUP, including a new reverse commute project designed to get inner city workers to suburban jobs. S/he will maintain data bases of members and interested persons and coordinate communications with them. S/he will assist in working with other organizations in coalitions with PUP on the various issues.
