Summary: The life-skills educator is responsible for conducting on-going life-skills education on a one-on-one basis as well as small group situations. Courses take place both in-house at our facility as well as mobile-outreach to client?s homes. Focus is on literacy, job readiness, improvement of money management, personal care, socialization and other basic skills necessary for effective functioning as an adult. The Life Skills Educator will also conduct individual life skills assessments and progress notes when necessary. Oasis is a creativity based program and we encourage intuitive and creative approaches to learning and teaching.

Objectives:
1. Develop appropriate life skills training curriculum including the use of creative solutions to learning problems;
2. Conduct on-going life skills training for an adult population with varying degrees of mental retardation;
3. Provide assessments and progress notes when needed that identify deficit areas where services must be targeted;
4. Work cooperatively as a team of human service professionals;
5. Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner;
6. Perform other related tasks as assigned.
7. Basic computer skills are required.
8. A valid driver?s license is required.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor?s Degree with a minimum of two years of direct service experience with adults with mental retardation and/or mental illness. The Life Skills Educator must also have some experience in teaching reading and writing skills to adults with mental retardation. Literacy is a big part of our Life Skills program. Some type of creative/artistic background/education/experience is plus.
