Resident Academic Tutor
A Better Chance (ABC) in Lower Merion is a residential program for academically-gifted minority high-school students. Our program, located in Ardmore, PA houses 8 boys from across the country, as well as a Resident Director/House Parent and three Resident Academic Tutors.
*** This position is part-time and can be held with daytime employment or while attending graduate school. All staff receive free room, board, and a small stipend as payment for services. ***
Responsibilities Include:
– Tutor in all academic areas. We especially need those with strong knowledge of math and science.
– Supervise study hall Sunday – Thursday evenings from 7:00 – 9:30 PM.
– Participation in weekday dinners required (6:00 – 6:30 PM)
– Supervise house one evening per week and one weekend per month
– Participate in and help organize recreational activities
– Take responsibility for fostering a family-like atmosphere in the house
– Live in the house.
Qualifications:
– College graduates preferred
– Background in academic subjects
– Experience in working with teenagers
– Maturity, ability to enforce rules
– Warmth and good interpersonal skills
