Job Description: Girard Coalition Community Organizer
The Girard Coalition, Inc. (GCI) is seeking an experienced, energetic, creative and selfmotivated individual to assume the role of Community Organizer. The Community Organizer serves as the primary point of contact for the general public with GCI. The Community Organizer reports to the Executive Director.
The Girard Coalition, Inc. is a broad coalition of over 50 neighborhood groups, businesses and major institutions along Girard Avenue, a major east-west artery in Philadelphia, who have come together to stimulate commerce, increase foot traffic, and grow the population of Girard Avenue, creating a vibrant and exciting commercial corridor. The Coalition covers an area of four-miles
in length from I-95 to 33rd Street.
The Community Organizer meets with and establishes ongoing relationships with area businesses. The Community Organizer solicits participation by area businesses and civic organization in the planning and implementation of redevelopment activities for Girard Avenue. The Organizer attends area civic and business association meetings and provides information on GCI activities and assists businesses in applying for City of Philadelphia grants and programs.
The Community Organizer produces a bi-monthly newsletter as well as information to be used in updating the organizational web site. The Community Organizer assists with the facilitation and coordination of quarterly public and all organizational meetings conducted by GCI.
The Community Organizer maintains and updates information on Girard Avenue property ownership rental and sales information. The Community Organizer maintains a database of contact information on area stakeholders as well as records of all GCI Board, Public and Committee meetings. The Community Organizer assists in the implementation of GCI developmental strategies.
The Community Organizer assists Girard area civic organizations with coordinating their individual neighborhood development plans with other neighborhoods and private development plans to promote the overall improvement to the Girard corridor area.
