Job Description for a VISTA
Unpaid VISTA position ? Must be accepted as a VISTA to secure this position Serve as Program Manager for the Home Savings Plus Individual Development Account Program (the Program) of United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. This program is designed to help low-income families build wealth and learn about asset development by becoming first-time homeowners. Work collaboratively with nonprofit organizations that are providing housing counseling and financial literacy to low-income, working families.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Demonstrate an interest in asset development strategies and financial self-sufficiency programs. Assist in formulating an asset development strategy in collaboration with other nonprofit organizations. Assist in partnering with The Campaign for Working Families (the Earned Income Tax Credit project).
2. Identify ongoing best practices in IDA program delivery that four partner nonprofit agencies can strive to attain. Act as a primary staff contact and relationship manager for four partners.
3. Oversee program implementation and with the assistance of the Community Impact Manager, ensure quality in delivery of housing counseling and financial literacy training.
4. Have an interest in working with community-based organizations.
5. Facilitate one-on-one and peer-to-peer technical assistance on program policies and procedures to partner agencies.
6. Responsible for reporting and outcome measurement (using a user-friendly database called AFI 2).
7. Coordinate and supervise maintenance of all record keeping and financial tracking for the IDA account holders. Process participant bank statements.
8. Assist in supporting the Program?s fifteen-member Advisory Board, drafting agendas, keeping board minutes and helping to run Board meetings.
9. Make routine site visits and prepare monthly reports on partner agencies.
10. Act as a liaison to UWSEPA?s Marketing Department to assist in Program promotion. Represent the United Way at meetings and at public forums.
Qualifications
Be a self-starter and possess strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Candidate will be designing her/his own work plans and identifying program needs and priorities as they arise. Be able to multi-task. The ideal person will be flexible, positive and have a sense of humor. Possess an undergraduate degree or have some graduate education. Demonstrate ability to write well, communicate effectively and work collaboratively, particularly with diverse groups of people. Spanish language is a plus.
Report to the Community Impact Manager for Strengthening Neighborhoods and Communities. Begin work at office at 7 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia in late July 2005.
