The Youth Golf & Academics Program is looking for an upbeat, dynamic person to teach computer skills to elementary school children 2-4 afternoons a week using a mobile iBook computer lab. Job description attached. Location is currently the Murphy Recreation Center at 3rd & Shunk in South Philadelphia, but we are trying to move to a West Philadelphia location as that is where most of our children reside. Youth Golf & Academics Program
Title: COMPUTER INSTRUCTOR
Reports to: Lead Teacher or Site Director
Description: Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher or Site Director, the Computer Instructor develops and implements approved computer instruction and activities to help children acquire age-appropriate skills and knowledge. Computer Instructor also sets up and secures all computer equipment; reports computer maintenance needs and repairs; provides guidance for junior staff or volunteers assisting in computer activities; provides for the safety of participants and volunteers by enforcing program rules and standards; and performs other duties related to the program as assigned. The hours are 3:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
Responsibilities:
? Provides age-appropriate computer instruction to elementary school children.
? Develops in consultation with supervisor a computer instruction curriculum with activities, games, supply needs, and a plan for measuring student progress. Refine as needed.
? Implements daily computer instruction activities.
? Sets up and secures all computer equipment and supplies on a daily basis.
? Reports immediately to the Site Director any and all computer maintenance needs and repairs, or other problems.
? Arrives to program on time and adequately prepared, and notifies Site Director well in advance of any expected absences.
? Maintains all program materials in good working condition and keeps them at the assigned areas.
? Establishes rapport with and assists volunteers and staff who help with computer activities.
? Consistently upholds program rules, policies, and expectations. Models appropriate behavior at all times. Provides classroom management (discipline and structure) and responds to challenging behaviors in a manner that is consistent with the program philosophy and procedures.
 Communicates effectively and appropriately with staff, students, parents, and school partners as authorized by supervisor.
 Documents student progress, injuries, behavioral incidents, and/or family contact in a manner that is consistent with program practice and procedures. Completes attendance forms, curriculum forms, evaluations, and other paperwork in a timely manner.
? Performs other duties related to the program as assigned.
? Participates in orientation and staff meetings as directed. Completes 15 hours of approved training annually to maintain employment.
Qualifications:
 Minimum age of 18
 A high school diploma or GED plus at least 30 credit hours of coursework from an accredited college or university in a relevant field
 Familiarity with iBooks and Macintosh operating systems/software and related technology; familiarity with age-appropriate educational software; demonstrated capacity to teach computer skills to novice child/adolescent learners
 Excellent command of the English language including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage
 Must be able to lift 50 pounds, bend, squat, and reach; with appropriate training, must be able to administer approved passive physical restraint
 Experience working with children aged five years old and above
 Demonstrated ability to maintain discipline with a group of 30 children
 Ability to interact successfully and respectfully with volunteers, staff, parents, teachers, participants, and others.
 Strong organizational and decision-making skills
 Strong sense of integrity and professionalism
 Prior employment/personnel requirements include three professional references, criminal background check, and child abuse clearance
 Ability to effectively integrate junior staff and volunteers into service delivery and to supervise their work
