Full – Time Youth Development Coordinator

The Youth Health Empowerment Project (Y-HEP) is an adolescent youth health and development project committed to social change. Using teen peer outreach workers and adults we go to where young people gather to get out information, referrals and resources about sexual health issues such as HIV, STDs, pregnancy, D&A and sexual decision making. Y-HEP has a drop in center for young people to get connected to services and activities. Our goal is to reach high-risk youth including those who are homeless, out of school, sex workers or have harmful addictions. We utilize a harm reduction philosophy to meet young people where they are at.

Job description: Youth Development Coordinator is responsible for coordinating street outreach program and training and supervising youth staff aged 16-21. The position requires strong communication skills, a commitment to struggling with sexism, racism, classism and homophobia, and extensive experience working in a mentor/coaching relationship with youth.

Major responsibilities include:
Coordinating street outreach to high-risk youth
Supervising youth staff during outreach and workshops
Development of workshop curricula for young women’s discussion group and workshops
Youth advocacy and harm reduction with youth clients
Supporting personal and professional development of youth staff through mentoring and training
Putting the Harm Reduction philosophy into practice

Preferred qualifications:
Experience working with youth
Background in sexual health or D&A recovery
Knowledge of Spanish
Strong communication skills
BA degree
Experience organizing for social change
