Independent Sector Invites Nominations for John W. Gardner Leadership Award
Deadline: January 31, 2007
Independent Sector (<a href="http://www.independentsector.org/">http://www.independentsector.org/</a>) presents the John W. Gardner Leadership Award each year to an individual working in the voluntary sector who has advanced the common good by building, mobilizing, and unifying people, institutions, or causes. Named for the late John W. Gardner — American statesman and founding chairperson of Independent Sector — the award honors a leader who has transformed society and served as a beacon to individuals and communities.
The award consists of $10,000 and a replica of an original relief bust of John Gardner.
The award recognizes living Americans working in or with the voluntary sector who build, mobilize, and unify people, institutions, or causes. As a result of their efforts, society is better able to address its problems and reach toward its highest aspirations. Award recipients are builders — people who, quite apart from noteworthy personal feats, have raised the capacity of others to improve society. Their leadership has had national or international impact; if their work has been at the regional level, it has attracted wider recognition and imitation. Recipients may be of any age.
Anyone may nominate an individual to receive the John W. Gardner Leadership Award.
Visit the Independent Sector Web site for complete program guidelines and application procedures.
