Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Invites Applications for Substance Abuse Policy Research Program
Deadline: November 14, 2006 (Brief Proposals)
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s (<a href="http://www.rwjf.org/">http://www.rwjf.org/</a>) Substance Abuse Policy Research Program is designed to encourage experts in public health, law, political science, medicine, sociology, criminal justice, economics, psychology, and other behavioral and policy sciences to address issues related to substance use, one of the most pressing public health problems facing the United States.
Projects are expected to increase understanding of public and private policy interventions to prevent, treat, and reduce the harm caused by the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs.
Preference will be given to applicants who are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and are not private foundations as defined under Section 509(a).
Up to $4 million in total grants is available in this round of funding. Applicants may apply for Large Grants in amounts of $100,000 to $400,000 (Brief Proposal Deadline: November 14, 2006); or for Small Grants in amounts under $100,000 (Brief Proposal Deadlines: November 14, 2006, and May 8, 2007).
In addition, the foundation’s new Targeted Rapid Response Grant will provide funding of up to $30,000 to support time-sensitive policy analyses that will advance knowledge on key issues of substance-abuse policy (alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs). Organizations such as public interest groups, policy think tanks, non-governmental organizations, and health and healthcare provider organizations may apply. These projects’ findings must be timely and made widely available so they can inform policy development or implementation. Targeted Rapid Response Grant proposals are accepted at any time without specific deadlines.
The complete Call for Proposals is available at the RWJF Web site.
