NetAid Seeking Applications for Global Action Awards
Deadline: November 30, 2006
The NetAid (<a href="http://www.netaid.org/">http://www.netaid.org/</a>) Global Action Awards honor high school students in the United States who have organized and led a project that has impacted people in poor countries or raised awareness about global poverty in their own communities. The awards celebrate young people who have shown leadership in areas such as preventing HIV/AIDS, alleviating hunger, and improving access to education.
To qualify, applicants must have attended a U.S. high school (9th through 12th grades) during the 2005-06 academic school year. Applicants must be residents of the United States.
Projects may involve organizing advocacy campaigns, raising funds, volunteering, or using media and technology to involve others in the fight against global poverty. Issues addressed by projects should be global in nature and may include, but are not limited to, alleviating hunger; promoting human rights, children’s rights, or gender equity; increasing access to clean drinking water, health care, or education; preventing and treating HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, or other diseases; and supporting a sustainable environment.
Honorees are awarded $5,000 for college or a charitable cause of their choice.
See the NetAid Web site for complete program guidelines, an FAQ, and information on previous award winners.
