Tony Hawk Foundation Accepting Applications for Public Skatepark Grant Program
Deadline: October 1, 2006
The Tony Hawk Foundation (<a href="http://www.tonyhawkfoundation.org/">http://www.tonyhawkfoundation.org/</a>) works to promote high-quality public skateparks in low-income areas throughout the United States.
Since 2002, the foundation has awarded 291 skatepark grants worth more than $1.3 million. The foundation’s board of directors meets twice annually to review grant applications from municipalities and community groups pursuing public skateparks. The board favors projects that demonstrate the greatest need, significant involvement of skaters at every step of the skatepark process, and a commitment to hiring experienced skatepark specialists to ensure a quality park.
Applicant organizations must be public charities organized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and qualified under Section 170(B)(1)(A), or a state or local agency (including public school systems or public projects). Projects most likely to receive funding will be located in low-income areas and can demonstrate strong community and grassroots support.
Grants range from $1,000 to $25,000.
More information regarding deadlines and applicant criteria is available on the foundation’s Web site.
