Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) Core Centers
Posted by on November 25, 2005
Funding Opportunity Number: RFA-ES-05-008
Due Date for Applications: Mar 15, 2006
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) invites applications from qualified institutions for support of Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) Core Centers. These Centers are designed to build infrastructure in the field of environmental health sciences and environmental medicine. A Core Center Grant is an institutional award to support centralized resources and facilities shared by investigators with existing research projects. By providing a Center structure and Core resources this support is intended to enhance the productivity of traditional research grants at the institution, focus investigators on environmental science issues relevant to clinical medicine and public health, and, thereby, improve the health of the community and nation. An EHS Core Center Grant helps to integrate and promote research in existing projects and provides an administrative framework within one or several central themes.
Support includes administrative and facilities personnel, equipment, supplies, and services. In addition, it provides limited funds for pilot projects, training, career development, and, optionally, community outreach. However, no funds are provided for direct support of research projects, except for pilot projects, recruitment of select new investigators, and research program development.
NIEHS plans to award up to $6 million in FY 2007 to fund three to four grants in response to this RFA.
The EHS Core Centers will use the Center Core Grant (P30) mechanism.
Eligible organizations include public or private organizations such as universities, colleges, hospitals, and laboratories.
Eligible principal investigators are any individuals with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research.
Eligible principal investigators may submit only one application per year.
