Proposals Invited for Active Living Research Program
Deadline: May 25, 2005

Active Living Research (<a href="http://www.activelivingresearch.org/">http://www.activelivingresearch.org/</a>), a $12.5 million national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (<a href="http://www.rwjf.org/index.jsp">http://www.rwjf.org/index.jsp</a>), is designed to stimulate and support research that will identify environmental factors and policies that influence physical activity. Findings generated by the program are expected to inform environmental and policy changes that will promote active living among Americans, both young and old.

The primary purpose of the current Call for Proposals is to increase understanding regarding how policies influence physical activity in schools and communities in order to motivate and guide policy change. The research funded under this Call for Proposals is expected to inform RWJF’s efforts to help halt the increase in childhood obesity rates by 2015.

Up to $1.1 million is available in this round of funding, with grants ranging up to $200,000 total over two years. In addition, doctoral candidates may request up to $25,000 total over two years as support for their doctoral dissertations.

Preference may be given to applicants that are either public entities or nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Brief proposals for research topics and full proposals for dissertation awards are due May 25, 2005.
