Youth Service America Recruiting Lead Agencies for National Youth Service Day
Deadline: September 17, 2004
Youth Service America seeks organizations to serve as lead agencies for the 17th Annual National Youth Service Day, to take place April 15-17, 2005.
National Youth Service Day, the largest service event in the world, is designed to engage millions of young Americans and focus national attention on the leadership of young people. The annual event aims to mobilize youth leaders to identify and address the needs of communities through service; support youth on a lifelong path of service and civic engagement; and educate the public, the media, and policy makers about the year-round contributions of young people as community leaders.
Lead agencies increase the scope, visibility, and sustainability of National Youth Service Day by leading city, regional, or statewide celebrations. The benefits of serving as a lead agency include increased program participation, national media attention, the formation of new partnerships, and increased support from elected officials.
Lead agencies will receive a $2,000 National Youth Service Day planning grant to be used for staff compensation, supplies, coalition meetings, and other related project planning expenses. In addition to the grant, lead agencies will receive a range of planning and promotional assistance and materials.
In order to be eligible as a lead agency, an organization must demonstrate organizational capacity to fulfill the responsibilities of a lead agency; ability to engage a variety of community groups; ability to plan a citywide, regional, or statewide National Youth Service Day celebration involving more than four hundred youth volunteers in service for the 2005 event; and ability to respond to quick deadline press opportunities.
For complete program information, details on lead agency responsibilities and benefits, and an online application form, see the Youth Service America Web site.
