Is that twisty-looking light bulb really that much better? Is leasing solar panels the answer? Is “going green” something you even understand, and do you have to sacrifice hot showers to achieve it?
Sustainability is everywhere these days. IBM has targeted the concept in commerce, municipalities are employing “green” measures, and after a summer of sky-rocketing fuel costs, energy efficiency and alternatives are front-and-center in the mainstream media. Even Family Guy advertisements are focusing on being eco-friendly. But what does sustainability mean for you as a young person in Philadelphia? Sure, these macro strategic measures may be sensible and necessary, but they probably don’t provide the opportunities you’re looking for to get active.
But opportunities for you to make a difference to exist – your contribution is easier than you might think, can have a great effect on your community’s environment, and even save some money on energy bills.
To explain how personal sustainability can impact your household, workplace, and community, Young Involved Philadelphia is partnering with The Academy of Natural Sciences to sponsor a forum that will offer sustainable solutions for everyday life. Come ask your questions and get insights, ideas, and resources from our panel of Philadelphia’s brightest – and greenest – young minds.
Panel:
Eric Cheung, Clean Air Council
Christine Knapp, Penn Future
Johanna Rosen, MillCreek Farms
Katrina Schwartz, Energy Coordinating Agency
We look forward to seeing you there!
