Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to Award Grants for Health Projects in New Jersey
Deadline: January 27, 2004 (Brief proposals)

Reflecting the commitment of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (<a href="http://www.rwjf.org/">http://www.rwjf.org/</a>) to its home state, the New Jersey Health Initiatives Program is designed to improve health and health care in New Jersey communities.

The program will fund up to eight projects in 2004, with grants ranging from $50,000 to $400,000. Projects, which can be two to four years in length, should represent innovative strategies designed to address one or more of the following goals: to assure that all Americans have access to quality healthcare at reasonable cost; to improve the quality of care and support for people with chronic health conditions; to promote healthy communities and lifestyles; and to reduce the personal, social, and economic harm caused by substance abuse (i.e., tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs).

To be eligible, organizations must be either public entities or nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Applicants and their projects must be located in the state of New Jersey. The types of organizations or groups that will be considered for funding include healthcare providers, such as community-based organizations, hospitals, and long-term-care providers; physician and other provider organizations; statewide or regional associations related to providers; organizations that target an underserved group; and planning and advocacy organizations.
