Service-Learning in After-School Programs
Posted by on May 7, 2007
The Pacific Region of the National Service-Learning Exchange is excited to announce that it will sponsor a two day institute to teach the basics about afterschool service-learning. The institute will be held AUGUST 1-2, 2007 in Oakland, CA. Participants will prepare service-learning projects for effective implementation in afterschool environments.
This interactive institute will include presentations from the acclaimed California Afterschool Service-Learning (CASSL) initiative about successful programs in urban and other environments, as well as emerging research about the impact of service-learning in afterschool settings. Participants will receive a copy of the book, Service-Learning in Afterschool Programs: Resources for Afterschool Educators, and use this resource to design a specific project for their own program. Project design will emphasize developing youth leadership skills and incorporating youth reflection in program evaluation.
