? Sept. 16-19, 2006, Grassroots & Groundwork: What Communities Are Doing to Get Out?and Stay Out?of Poverty, Radisson Riverfront Hotel, St. Paul, Minnesota.

This conference trains a spotlight on what communities all across the country are doing to reduce poverty long term. They will describe the practical and tested strategies and tools they are using to get out?and stay out?of poverty. This conference is a chance to roll up your sleeves and examine what?s working. Conference will include 20 sessions describing practical strategies and tools, insightful keynote speakers, a panel featuring top journalists and authors, a wonderful formal dinner, and more. Sponsored by the Northwest Area Foundation.

? A half-day Community-Builder Institute will offer two workshops: Building Economic Engines and Opportunities, and Building Community Capacity to Design, Lead and Implement Lasting Change.
? Sept. 17th Sunday evening panel will focus on how journalists and authors are ? or aren?t ? helping to shape the national discussion about persistent poverty.

To date, our panel includes moderator Brent Cunningham, managing editor of the Columbia Journalism Review; and panelist Mark Robert Rank, author of One Nation, Underprivileged: Why American Poverty Affects Us All
? Keynote speakers will include Elouise Cobell, a member of the Blackfeet Indian Tribe of Montana, executive director of the Native American Community Development Corporation, and widely recognized for her work on the Individual Indian Monies Trust Correction and Recovery Project. Ms. Cobell will address the institutionalization of poverty through policy.
