Recruiting Diverse Members/Volunteers
Thursday, May 5, 2005; 9:00 AM-4:30 PM
Friday, May 6, 2005; 9:00 AM-4:30 PM

This workshop will explore the critical steps toward creating a well-balanced recruitment process for recruiting diverse members and volunteers. The workshop uses a broad definition of diversity (age, gender, ethnicity, income, etc.) and the skills learned will help with outreach to any new group or community you want to recruit for your program. As a part of this process, participants will learn how to assess the many levels of diversity within their community. The training will cover the essential skills needed to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse community groups and leaders who can serve as gateways for new volunteers. Since even the best recruitment strategy will not be effective if programs cannot retain diverse volunteers/members, participants will also look at organizational barriers to and strategies for retention.

Participants will begin the development of a marketing/recruitment plan during the workshop. Although there is no prerequisite required for this workshop, it is recommended that participants have previously attended a diversity fundamentals workshop.

There will be a $50.00 non-refundable registration fee for each workshop for materials and breaks. Participants are responsible for all travel, hotel, and meal costs.
