Institute on College Student Values

Posted by on October 15, 2004

The Institute on College Student Values will host its 15th annual meeting on February 3-5, 2005, at Florida State University. Over the past two decades the Institute has become a national gathering for higher education administrators, teachers, researchers, and students who are especially interested in how colleges and universities encourage moral, civic, and spiritual development. The 2005 Institute will examine how colleges and universities educate for leadership that integrates values and spirituality: “Leadership with Spirit: How Colleges Prepare Students to Lead with Moral Purpose and Commitment.”

Featured speakers and presenters include: Diana Walsh, President of Wellesley College, Barry Posner, Dean of the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University, Susan Komives, Senior Scholar at the Academy of Leadership and Associate Professor at the University of Maryland, and Robert Nash, Professor of Education at the University of Vermont. Arthur Chickering and Liesa Stamm will serve as Faculty in Residence. Invited Presenters include Denny Roberts, Miami University of Ohio, Tony Chambers, University of Michigan, Margaret Jablonski, UNC-Chapel Hill, Larry Moneta, Duke University, Carney Strange, Bowling Green State University, Jennifer Lindholm, UCLA, Larry Braskamp, Loyola University. More information about the program and registration are available at http://www.Collegevalues.org/Institute.cfm.

Leadership programs are very popular with college students and leadership education can be a very effective strategy for helping students to explore issues of values, meaning and purpose in their lives and career preparation. We invite you to participate in the Institute and to bring a team from your institution. We are also interested in learning what your institution may be doing to encourage moral and civic learning.
