Civic Engagement Institute for Academic Leaders** October 28-29, 2004** Augsburg College
This institute for deans, dept. chairs, and provosts will be facilitated by four nationally recognized leaders: Eugene Rice, Senior Scholar at the American Association for Higher Education, Nadinne Cruz, consultant and former director of the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University, Robert Exley, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Iowa Western Community College, and Susan Agre-Kippenhan, Chair of the Art Department at Portland State University. Institutional change through policy and culture, intellectual frameworks for civic engagement, and successful models of engaged curriculum will be some of the issues discussed. Lori Vogelgesang of UCLA?s Higher Education Research Institute will also present the results of research on service-learning. Co-sponsored by the Upper Midwest Campus Compact Consortium, the American Association for Higher Education, and Augsburg College. Early bird registration deadline is September 30, 2004; the final deadline is October 18, 2004.
