Leadership Development in Youth Work: A Key Pathway to Youth Development & Social Change * July 19-21, 2004 * Cambridge, MA
(registration now available: https://www.youthbuild.org/youthleadership/)
This workshop combines YouthBuild?s 25 years of experience of engaging young people in decision-making and leadership skill building, with the research and practice of others in the youth leadership field, into a dynamic, experiential, practical 3-day workshop. The training is designed as an interactive “peer leadership laboratory” in which participants will learn how to :
* effectively create a culture of leadership development,
* counteract oppression, beliefs, and behaviors that hold leadership back,
* provide nurturance and support for young leaders,
* build holistic program components that foster leadership,
* involve young people in appropriate decision-making and power-sharing, and,
* engage youth in action learning and organizing for change.
Your own leadership will be strengthened as you practice how to provide conditions for young people to raise their leadership level. You will come away understanding how leadership development can enhance your program outcomes. You will leave with practical tools, curriculum ideas, and a draft plan for applying what you learned. You will go home better prepared to be partners with young people in developing leadership for their lives and our communities. This is basic training for line youth workers and program level managers who want practical approaches to fostering leadership development among young people.
