Community Law Center 2004 First Annual Regional Conference
June 21
20 West Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD
Baltimore and similar regions are reeling from an epidemic of foreclsures, vacant homes and broken dreams. Meanwhile, residents are struggling to improve their blocks and streets by reclaiming a vacant house or lot, only to find that more homes become vacant and boarded. Despite these best attempts, the homes of low-wealth households continue to be threatented by predatory lending practices. Communities and municipalities suffer as well from the losses in revenue and population and the movement of investment to the outer ring suburbs.
During the past three and a half years, the Communitiy Law Center has served as the lead agency charged with staffing and coordinanting the Baltimore City Flipping & Predatory Lending Task Force. The conference provides the oppuortunity for the Baltimore Task Force and others involved in similar efforts throuout the region to convene to share “Lessons Learned” in identifying and responding to illegal property flipping (the quick purchase and resale of houses at falsely inflated values), mortgage fraud, predatory lending and predatory mortgage loan servicing practices.
Join community leaders, planners and developers, consumer advocates and attorneys, community organizations, housing counselors, elected officials, lawenforcement, regulatiors, policy makers, housing officials, researchers and industry professionals. The Keynote Address will be given ty The Honorable United States Senator Paul S. Sarbanes.
