Come join us for a dialogue about the role of the university in civic engagement, obstacles and successful means of fostering service-learning, combating apathy among rural youth and strengthening civic participation. The symposium will include two panel discussions and a keynote lecture by Dr. Anne Colby, Co-director of the Preparation for the Professions Program and the Political Engagement Project at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Keynote Address, Dr. Anne Colby: “The Role of the University in Educating for Moral, Civic, and Political Development” (Farber Hall in Old Main)
The University of South Dakota, founded in 1862, is designated as the only public liberal arts university in the state and is home to a large College of Arts and Sciences, a School of Education and the state’s only Law School, Medical School, accredited Business School, and College of Fine Arts. It has an enrollment of approximately 7,900 students taught by 400 faculty members.
