Volunteer with Neighborhood Bike Works on MLK Day
Posted by on January 2, 2007
Our mission at the Neighborhood Bike Works is to improve the opportunities of Philadelphia’s youth through cycling.
This past year has been a tremendous success in that we had our fullest class schedule to date. Our ongoing adult Bicycle co-op, known as Bike Church was also extremely successful in not only helping people maintain and obtain bikes but also fundraised the most amount of money yet! With so many people using our shop, parts, and tools, things tend to get a little out of control and that is why we need your help!
This Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service will mark our 8th year of having volunteers help us clean and organize Neighborhood Bike Works. It also marks our 8th anniversary of our headquarters being in our current location and our move here couldn’t have been accomplished without the help of dedicated volunteers. Since then, the NBW MLK Day of Service events have been essential to maintaining and updating our shop, and hopefully this year will be no different!
On Monday, January 15th we will be painting a new mural, constructing wheel racks, organizing our bicycle graveyard, pricing bike parts and accessories, and doing other general cleaning and organizing.
West Philly Food Not Bombs will be catering this event with healthy, vegan cuisine. We will be kicking things off at 9 am, breaking for lunch around noon and hopefully we will complete our missions by 3 pm.
We have two shop locations that both need volunteers, our headquarters at 3916 Locust Walk (please go to this link for detailed directions as it is a little tricky to find http://www.neighborhoodbikeworks.org/contact/index.htm) or 5958 Vine St. on the corner of 60th and Vine.
Please contact Faith Hochman our program coordinator at (215) 873-6696 or email at faith@neighborhoodbikeworks.org to RSVP or ask any questions.
Happy New Year and big Thank you to everyone who helped make our last year such an outstanding achievement!
