Project H.O.M.E. Policy and Advocacy Intern
Summer 2004
This position is a part-time, temporary position for an intern who will work in Project H.O.M.E.?s Education/Advocacy Department, under the direct supervision of the Director of Public Policy and Coordinator of Education and Advocacy. The intern will work out of 1515 Fairmount Avenue, though if circumstances allow, the intern might occasionally report to other sites. Hours for this position are flexible, however a person in this position would ideally volunteer about 20 hours a weeks from May through August.
The intern would work primarily on the following initiatives:
1) Election 2004: Vote for Homes!:
a. Assist in voter registration and mobilization efforts, distribution of voter education guides
b. Participate in planning and facilitating the voter education program; assist in planning public events, including voting machine demonstrations and education events
c. Assist with mailings, faxing, phone calls, and other communication
d. Maintain records and updating relevant files
2) General Advocacy Responsibilities:
a. Maintain press clippings
b. Help develop and maintain advocacy and media database
c. Help with the production of the Dwelling Place newsletter
d. Participate in other special campaigns or coalitions in which Project H.O.M.E. is involved
In addition, the intern would be available for general assistance of the Director of Public Policy and Coordinator of Education and Advocacy, including preparing educational materials, working on specific legislative responses to relevant policy matters, helping with special advocacy-related events for formerly homeless residents; assisting with the production of the organizational newsletter, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
? Commitment to social justice, individual equality, and the mission of Project H.O.M.E.
? Willingness to work with and establish good relationships with staff, residents, and other members of the Project H.O.M.E. community
? Ability to respect confidentiality, privacy, and dignity of members of the Project H.O.M.E. community
? High school education or equivalent experience
? Strong written and verbal communications skills and organizational skills
? Ability to represent the agency in the community
? Experience with computers.
