Social Action & Social Witness Internships at Pendle Hill.

8 internships are available for committed social justice volunteers 18 and older to work 20 hours per week on or off-campus on a service/action project, live at Pendle Hill (http://www.pendlehill.org), and participate in the Resident Program (taking classes, using the arts studio, hermitages, library, etc.). The internships provide tuition, room, board, health insurance, and local transportation costs.

One or two experienced activists will be accepted on the basis of their proposals for off-campus volunteer work that is a continuation of a current project, or which represents a leading that is not included among our current site placements. (For example, past successful projects have included work with Friends Peace Teams and United for a Fair Economy.) Other applicants should consider working with one of Pendle Hill’s developing social witness projects in the area of youth development (Chester Project), peace (Peace Initiative, http://www.phpeace.net), or criminal justice (AVP and related programs).

Internships are available for people of all backgrounds and levels of experience, from young adults to seasoned and skilled activists. The Richard I. McKinney Social Witness Scholarship is specifically for an African American activist or young adult. Applications are currently being reviewed, but spaces are still open. The program runs September 2004-June 2005. Contact Bobbi Kelly, bobbi@pendlehill.org; (800) 742-3150 (US) / (610) 566-4507 (Worldwide), ext. 137.
