Looking for partners, youth electronics program

Dear Friends,

After more than a year of preparation, NTR has inaugurated what we feel is a unique after-school activity. The pilot, now underway, offers ten children the opportunity to build 7 kits. Over the course of the ten-week program, the children will learn to solder, follow instructions, and recognize electronic components. The children take their finished handiwork home as toys to show to family and friends.

Kits in the pilot program include a crystal radio, sound effect devices, an FM wireless microphone, a party strobe light, a telephone, and a stereo tape player.

Each three-hour session begins with a brief demonstration of a simple home-made electromagnetic device. These include static electric balloons, an electromagnet, a battery made from lemons, a simple electric motor, a Jacob’s ladder, etc.

The early stage of the pilot program has already shown that this activity is well suited to motivated middle school and high school children with the middle school students each requiring an adult partner.

We are now seeking collaboration with about 10 organizations to serve 200 children with this program next year. If you have an after school program convenient to Broad and Spring Garden streets, and you would like to discuss the possibility that your students could participate in this program next year, please call or write.

You will be invited to visit and observe our pilot program which is now underway on Friday evenings from 6 pm till 9 pm.
